“God Hates Westboro Baptist Church!”

Two anti-WBC protesters surprise WBC figurehead Fred Phelps.

First, a couple of quote’s from Westboro Baptist Church’s GODSMACKS blog (10/6/11, click here for link):

“THANK GOD! Steve Jobs is dead! Westboro will picket his funeral!”

“Those captains of business/industry in Noah’s day did what Jobs and his cohorts do TODAY: turn the country over to the fags!”

So who are the Westboro Baptist Church? And why do they hate the late Apple genius Steve Jobs so much? So much so that they have plans to picket his funeral?

Well the Westboro Baptist Church is an organisation out of Topeka, Kansas. They’re known for their practices of protesting and picketing events that they believe “God hates.” They’ve been on this crusade for many a year. Among their “Greatest Hits” are the picketing of celebrity funerals such as Michael Jackson and Ronnie James Dio. They’ve also been known to picket the funerals of soldiers that have served over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not exactly the actions of sane people.

So why would they picket the funeral of the late Apple head, Steve Jobs? Basically, they like to make examples out of celebrities. They believe, that just like in Genesis, the World has become perverted and a lost cause. In the bible, God warns Noah that he is going to destroy the Earth with a flood so he instructs Noah to build an arc, gather up his family and the Earth’s creatures , and set sail while all the depravity of the Earth is destroyed. So, by proxy, Steve Jobs is (or was) the poster child for perversion and depravity. M’kay.

I think the link that they’re trying to make is that through the technology that Jobs ushered into to this world, he has encouraged the practice of homosexuality. Basically before the iPhone, there was no way of a man making a love connection with another man. The advent of devices such as the iPhone and iPad have made the practice of homosexuality all that more accessible. What a bunch of nutters.

The irony of it all? The picket was announced by Fred Phelps’s daughter, Margie Phelps, via Twitter on an iPhone. You don’t see the irony there, Margie?

There are a lot of great Christian organizations out there. But thanks to these Westboro Baptist Church yahoos, they’re all tarred with the same brush. People believe that the people picketing funerals of celebrities and soldiers are the same people that inhabit their local churches. That’s really sad. How does the old saying go? One bad apple soils the bunch? I know a lot of Christians and they are good people. If God hates anyone, I’m assuming the Westboro Baptist Church would be near the top of that list.

  1. Those Westboro Baptist Church people are crazy. I think they say things to provoke a reaction and supposedly slanderous comments so they can sue people. It makes me happy that they’re not allowed into the UK.

This is comedy gold, I am going to throw away all my newspapers and subscribe to your blogg instead, fantastic, sarcastic, sardonic English Humour (with a “‘U”).

I wrote my poem “Irony is not a metal” and “This is how wars begin” because of my American friend. He liked them anyway.

Consider me a fan and a new follower, teach me in the ways of the ex-patriot.

Where were you from in England?

    Dave

    • Thanks mate! I’m originally from the Great Yarmouth, Norfolk area.

I flippin’ love the “Irony is Not a Metal” title. Too funny. Yep, it’s kind of hard translating the sarcastic English sense of humour into everyday United States living (I’m kind of out numbered here). I’ve had to adapt my sense of humour accordingly. But, armed with my keyboard, I’m able to unleash the beast and vent through this blog!
